Illustration: Japanese Moon Princess Illustration
An illustration inspired by a book of Japanese fairy tales I've been reading recently, written in English by Yei Theodora Ozaki. The Bamboo-cutter and the Moon Child is loosely based on an earlier version written in Japanese by Sadanami Sanjin. ⠀
It's a well known story, originally written in Japan in the tenth century and since absorbed into modern popular culture through various animated films, books and games.
