Hand lettered book cover titles for The Railway Girls series by Maisie Thomas for Penguin Books.
Set in Manchester, The Railway Girls series is inspired by the author's great aunt, Jessie, who worked as a railway clerk during the First World War.
I loved working on the titles for this popular series, bringing some vintage style to the cover lettering. This custom lettering is painted spontaneously with ink and brush on paper, something that's difficult to replicate digitally with any authenticity. Each title is specifically designed to work with each individual cover within the series.
Designed by Emma Grey Gelder, they make a great set with a strong shelf presence. There are more coming up in the series, which I'll post once the books are launched but for now here's the latest festive cover.
If you'd like to see more of my hand lettering across book series, take a look at my work for Debbie Macomber, Isabelle Broom or Jane Fallon or just browse my Publishing folder for a range of hand lettered titles.
